Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for details.
An important official said the incident made him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
